Iya looked down from her perch in the tree to stare at the sleeping form of Finn. 'He shall be hungry when he wakes.' she thought with a smile, 'Should not have been so picky with your meal. There are times when it may be your last.' Turning to look at the horizon, Iya could see the faint after glow the sun was making as it ducked down for the night. Smiling she watched as the sky transformed from one colour to the next. She pulled her legs up close to herself and rested her chin on her knees. Her tail hung down from the branch and twitched side to side slightly. Beneath her she heard Finn move around on the ground. She tilted her head to the side and peered at him through the corner of her eye. Her fanned ears opened wide. Once she was sure that he was still again, she looked down the way where the two of them had walked and few hours prior. She suppressed a mournful sigh and leaned her head back onto the tree, "What I am doing here? I should not have left the safety of my forest. There are so many strange things out here." Iya picked up the pouch of coins. She fished one out and stared at it, "So many strange things." she turned it in her fingers, weighed it in her palm, and tossed it in her hand. Taking one last look at it she placed it back in the bag. "Why did I let myself to be taken in?" Iya stared up at the advancing night. She watched as the first few stars began to show themselves in the deep blue-black expanse of sky. Looking back down at Finn, Iya felt uneasy again, "If not for his blindness, I would have stayed behind." Now that night had set in, Iya became restless. She was tired from so much walking, but still felt the need to burn off some of her pent up energies and emotions. She smiled as she looked into the dark trees behind her. Her pupils were incredibly round and had the tiniest rings of gold around them. "Alright then." she whispered and made her way quietly down the tree. She cast one last glance at Finn then bolted off into the trees. Iya raced through the foliage on all fours, kicking up dead leaves and lumps of dirt with her hands and feet. Her ears pressed themselves flat against the sides of her head. She smiled and actually laughed as the cool night air blew over her face. Spreading her wings open slightly, she bounded upward and began to leap from branch to branch. A few times she almost fell, as the limbs could not support her weight. Still, she laughed, feeling free and without care. Until she missed grabbing a certain branch. Her wings got tangled about her and she fell unceremoniously on the ground. Iya growled and struggled to get up. Cursing at how clumsy she had been, she sat up and brushed herself off. Suddenly she heard a sound. Her ears fanned up, trying to pin-point the source and the creator. When at last she did, a broad smile crossed her face, her fangs poking up over her bottom lip. Once again she ran, this time her wings pressed close to her. In the dim light of the sky she spotted a sparkling brook. Water splashing over rocks as it quickly sped along it's way. Iya crawled over towards it, she scooped her hand in and collected some water in her palm. First she sniffed the clear liquid, to make sure it was safe. Smelling nothing wrong with it, Iya sipped it up. It felt cool and refreshing against the back of her throat. Grinning a toothy grin, she bent over and drank straight from the stream. Raising her head from the water after her thirst was quenched, Iya jumped back and rose her wings as she saw a streak of sliver flash by in the water. Curious, she lowed her wings and crawled back. She stared deep into the dark water. There was another flash of sliver. This one stayed in front of Iya. Eyes adjusting to the darkness she was staring into, Iya grinned again. Lowering herself to the ground, Iya raised her hand up over the water, her fingers poised like an eagle's great talon. Her hand dove down quick as lightening. She giggled as she brought out a large fish, and threw it in back of her. It flopped and gasped for air where it landed. Desperately trying to get back to water. Iya pressed a hand to it's head and her other hand held it's tail. She waited patiently for it to die. Licking her lips she said, "I wonder how Finn shall feel about having fish for breakfast." Tucking the fish in the crook of her arm she headed back to where Finn was still sleeping and still dreaming. Amanda (The Queen Otaku) qotaku@istar.ca http://magi.com/~jppaquet ICQ# 12772767
