Subject: RPG Explanations Date: Mon, 25 May 98 21:48:57 -0400 From: Skyechan The two sat there quietly for a stretch of time-the Unicorn and the girl. The voices of the men waxed and waned as they conducted a search for their quarry. Apparantly they were as taken aback by the Unicorn's ability to shapeshift as Stana was-only they had no clue that A Unicorn could take on a human form. To them it seemed as if their prey had disappeared into thin air. The prints of humans held no intereset at all to them. Eventually the sounds above filtered out into the distance, but it wasn't until the birds returned to their songs and teh frogs to the croaking that Stana got up and began looking for a way out. "This way kinda openes up into a cavern..." she informed the still silent equine. "Maybe there's a way out here." "Your manner of speech is strange."he commented, getting to his feet painfully. "Look. If you can't stop picking on me in particular and humanity in general you can just sit here on your horsey rump and stew." Stana said crossly "I wish I would wake up from this dream already." She reached over and peeked at the dressing. The moss had dried out to a brownish color and when she pulled it away there was a clotted gash. The Woundwort was reapplied as she couldn't afford to waste what little was left. After thinking for a minute she pulled out her Ziplock bag and took some fresh moss from the cavern. The Unicorn looked at her appraisingly for a moment and nodded. "Do you have a name?" she finally asked as they moved further into the darkened caverns." Or do I keep calling you Unicorn?" "In your tongue" Translation: in the limiting spoken speech of mortals "you would call me Clip." "Stana. Pleased to meet you-ego and all." she hesitated and then decided to live out this dream as thoroughly as possible "AAnd about the way I speak? I don't think - no I -KNOW_ I'm not from here-wherever here is. I was in a room at Kutztown with my friend Teri and Paul, when there was some kinda freaky light and I woke up lying not a half mile from here. I don't know where the two ppl I was with are though...But if this is just a dream then why can't I wake up?" "do you think I am a dream?" he asked offended. "A very unplesant one." she answered "Unicorns are supposed to be noble and pure-not condenscending and rude." "What do you know of Unicorns-?" "Yes I know." she snorted in disgust "me a mere mortal that has no clue about what goes on in this wacko world you call reality. What could I possibly know about anything other than saving your butt and fixing that cut on your leg." "If you are not of here than mayhaps you are not like the mortals I know." he admitted reluctantly. "How much of a difference I judge not - perhaps -" he chopped it off, but Stana accepted teh offered truce. " "Look we need to get you to safety-somewhere you can heal up. I have to find Paul and Teri-golly even Paul would be a welcome sight right now-despite our arguments. Wonder if he's having this same dream? Was it the cafateria food?" She shook her head "maybe if I find them I'll wake up." "there is no place I know of that can be considered safe." he replied. "This area is new to me." there was a pause as if he was about to say more but nothing was forthcoming. Stana let it drop and conentrated on teh widening caverns. Soon they took an upturn and before they knew it Stana was digging them out of a smallish sized hole. It took some time to widen it-and by the time she was through her hands were scratched and bleeding. She grimaced at them and helped Clip out of the ditch. With a purely equine sigh he shifted back to his natural form and whickered. "I don't know what to say Clip." she commented "if you have no safe place to go-and I'm just dreaming this all up then there is nothing more I can offer you. But this is a really intense dream-and I usually don't remember my sleepy time visions. This is way FY-hey-" she stopped "no way-don't think so-must be the thought of all the anime Teri dragged up. Clip-hey!" He nudged her palm open and applied a horsey tongue to the scrapes. She flinched as the lashing dislodged the bits of caked dirt and grime from them. After a moment of looking at them-to her and back he sighed and touched his horn to them. Ok so she knew Unicorns could heal with a touch-but it was quite another thing to watch your skin actually knit back together and muscles uncoil within seconds. She truned her palms down and up looking at them in amazement. The Unicorn shuddered for a moment and swayed, shaking his head. "Clip?!" she exclaimed, rising to her feet. He shimmered for a second into his human form and then stabilized. With a snort and a flick of his tail he gallopped off into the woods and vanished. leaving Stana all alone. In the dark.
