Subject: [FARPG] Meal Time Date: Fri, 15 May 1998 22:20:49 -0400 From: cindy franklin Chuin looked up at the sign. "Inn of The Green Dragon". Well, if it was an inn, than there had to be food and lodgings. Chuin walked inside and, looking around, saw that there really wasn't anyone around. Just a man, a barmaid, some guy passed out at a table, and a kid sitting in a chair by the wall. Chuin sat at the nearest table to the door. The man walked up to him. "Hello. I'm Drake and this is my place. What may I get for you?" "Some stew and mead please," Chuin replied, looking around the nearly empty room instead of Drake. When Drake brought the food to the table, he asked, "so where're you from?" Chuin who hadn't even noticed the man's approach, jumped a little. "I'm from Toru." Drake nodded. "I kinda figured. I've only seen those kinda clothes on people from the mountains." Chuin looked down at his clothes. He thought everyone dressed like he did. He looked back up at Drake, then at the few other people in the inn. This was the first village he came to since leaving his country a few days ago. He hadn't met anyone on the road, nor had he met anyone in town. But being that it was still early yet, most people were still in bed. To him, the clothes of those around the inn were strange, but he thought it was just them. Chuin sighed a bit. ::Guess I'll have to get used to sticking out,:: he thought. He looked around the room again, his eyes stopping on the boy. Why were his eyes bound? He quietly asked the Innkeeper who the boy was and why his eyes were covered. Drake told him, "that's Finn. He was blinded while a slave." Chuin's eyebrows met in confusion. "Slave?" The word was drawn out as it was unfamiliar to him. "What's a slave?" Drake gave him a increduous look. "You don't know what a slave is??" Chuin shook his head. Drake studied him a moment. Was the kid joking? The confused looked told Drake that he really didn't know. "A slave is a person who's owned by another person." "That's ridiculous! No one can own another person. You're making that up!" Drake shook his head. "I wish I were, but it's the truth. Such a thing does exist." He looked closely at Chuin. "Just _where_ are you from??" Chuin's gaze dropped to his bowl of stew. "From a small village in a valley of Toru. We had never known of this 'slave' stuff. Nor have I heard of it in my travels since." "And where have you traveled?" "Mostly around Toru. I...uh...haven't met with many people." Chuin didn't like the direction this was going. Pretty soon, Drake would be asking about his village and ask why he left. Chuin needed to get the subject off himself. "So why did the man blind him," he asked, nodding his head in the direction of Finn. "Well", said Drake. "You'll have to ask him that yourself." Chuin nodded, got up and walked towards Finn. He was curious to find out what this "slave" stuff was about.
